This week we have woken to a winter wonderland right here in Anacortes! After some light snow in town on Monday which melted once on the ground, Tuesday snowed steadily almost all day with decent accumulation overnight, continuing into Wednesday.
It doesn't usually snow much here in Anacortes, perhaps a couple of days or so a year. Even in Seattle the snow doesn't usually hang around for long.
Spending time in the snow isn't new for me, I've snowboarded in Whistler, spent time in the Alaska Range, and so far have enjoyed a very powdery start to winter in the North Cascades.
What is new is waking up and looking out the window to see snow. There really is something magical about looking out the window and seeing a white dusting on the trees, and fluffy soft snow flakes falling to the ground. It's like being a child again - that level of excitement to just play outside.

Perhaps it is in part due to the fact that in Australia we usually don't have that luxury (especially being from Perth).
Being able to snowboard in the backyard is completely new, and great fun! If we had a toboggan we would have gone down the street! The shear number of fun activities that arise from a small amount of snow is amazing!
The snow has caused havoc around the area, power outages in some areas, schools closed, restricted work hours and some very slippery roads, so please everyone stay safe!
