My Top 5 Travel Destinations

I may not have travelled as much as a professional travel blogger, but I have travelled extensively and spent 10 months travelling in 2016. I have been to most continents, and so I feel I have an idea of some of the amazing places in this world to explore.

Map of my travels, gold dots: place visited, green dots: want to visit (could not fit in Australia and NZ)

A quick note regarding my favourites; I have come to think of my holidays as more "adventures" because I ditched the relaxing, lounge by the pool or the beach style travel back in 2014/2015. I love to explore the more remote areas, where you can see forces of nature at work. There is nothing more humbling than staring at a mountainous landscape which has been shaped by the force of glaciers and water over millions of years, and being reminded that you as an individual are infinitesimal in the grand scale of the Earth. I want to feel overcome with awe for how amazing our planet and all its systems, geological, meteorological and biological interact.

Flying around Vidoy and Bordoy Islands in the Faroe Islands

I understand many people don't relate to my style of travel, and prefer a relaxing holiday, so I know this list won't resonate with everyone, but I'll throw in a few things for those who don't feel like hiking 25 km a day or approaching "Type 2 Fun".

I had tried to fit all the destinations in one blog post, but condensing the information and photos to a readable length post meant I had to cut out so much cool stuff! So this will be a five part blog delivered in instalments over the next few weeks.

So, here is the list!

1. Greenland

Kayaking in the fjords surrounding Narsaq, South-West Greenland

2. Iceland

Seljalandsfoss waterfall, Golden Circle, Iceland

3. Alaska

Landing strip on the Pika Glacier, Denali NP, Alaska
View out the window flying from Juneau to Anchorage

4. Continental USA (the lower 48)

Angels Landing hike, Zion NP, Utah, USA

5. Ecuador

n
La Casa del Arbol, Banos, Ecuador

Now, I know it's not geographically diverse (it was a tough decision for fifth spot between Ecuador and the Faroe Islands). And yes, I understand Alaska is part of the USA, but given it's separation from continental USA and the special place it has in my heart, it has earned its own spot of the list.

Stay tuned for more details and photos of these destinations!
